FloatMO was a large, peaceful gathering of people, on water and on land, campaigning against Ta$$al’s planned operations in Okehampton Bay.
The message: TA$$AL! Stop Trashing Brand Tasmania
Held on Sunday 18 June 2017 on Hobart’s waterfront, over 300 vessels, including kayaks, boats and surfboards, travelled from CSIRO to Franklin Wharf carrying banners and flags in opposition to Ta$$al and the Liberal government, who supported the expansion with no environmental impact statement, effective regulation or governance, or social licence.
Over 1,000 people joined the rally on the dock to hear speakers from all walks of life, including prominent fishing identity Steve Starling, who described the Okehampton Bay expansion as “an absurd proposal” that would hurt Tasmania’s brand.
